Telepsychiatry

At HelloDoc’s telepsychiatry, we understand the needs and limitations of patients and GPs particularly in rural and remote areas to access psychiatric services.

Research and studies have reflected the effectiveness of telepsychiatry as being equally effective as face to face consultations. At HelloDoc, we, therefore, provide psychiatric consultations to these patients through modern and secure video platforms.

We have an excellent team of experienced Psychiatrists ready to work with GPs to provide personalised psychiatric consultations catered to the needs of each patient.

Telepsychiatry can benefit patients in several ways, including but not limited to;

  • Improve access to mental health specialty care that might not otherwise be readily available (e.g. in rural areas)
  • Bring care to the patient’s location
  • Help integrate behavioural healthcare and primary care, leading to better outcomes
  • Reduce delays in care
  • Reduce the need for time off work, childcare services, etc. to access appointments far away
  • Reduce potential transportation barriers, such as lack of transportation or the need for long drives
  • Reduce the barrier of stigma
While some people may be reluctant or feel awkward talking to person over videoconferencing, however in a tech-dominated world, majority of people report feeling more relaxed and willing to open up from the comfort of their home or a convenient local facility.

  1. You get a referral from your GP. You or your GP sends it to us via email, fax or secure messaging. Email (referrals@hellodoc.com.au), FAX 03 9001 0712, or secure messaging (hellodoc).
  2. Our triage team reviews the referral and “match it” with one of our psychiatrists.
  3. We speak to you and discuss about making an appointment.
  4. If applicable, you pay the fee before the appointment.
  5. A day before your appointment, we send you a text reminder and an email with video link for your video appointment.
  6. You attend your appointment with your practitioner. Practitioner discusses the plan of management with you.
  7. Practitioner sends a report to your referring GP.
  8. You follow up with your GP to go through the recommendations and management plans.

Please ensure referrals are addressed to “Dear Psychiatrist” and include a request for “291 assessment”. You can send a referral using your usual referral template, with as much information as possible or you can fill in HelloDoc sample referral letter. For your ease, click here to download our referral template. Please note: All referrals must include patient’s contact information, including phone number and email. Please fax referrals to our office on 03 9001 0712 or email at referrals@hellodoc.com.au. You can also submit via Health Link (using code ‘hellodoc’) or can submit via Argus (using code ‘hellodoc_coreplus@argus.net.au’). Our friendly admin team will contact the patient within 5 business days to book the appointment. Please advise your patients to call us if they have not heard from us within 5 business days of sending the referral.
