Dr Emmanuel Alfa

Dr Emmanuel Alfa is a Consultant Psychiatrist with expertise in Addiction Psychiatry and general adult psychiatry. He provides diagnostic evaluations, treatment planning, and ongoing support for individuals experiencing conditions such as depression, bipolar disorder, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder, and other psychiatric presentations.

Dr Alfa specialises in ADHD diagnosis and management for adults, offering detailed clinical evaluations to understand symptoms, functional challenges, and individual circumstances. He works with patients to develop suitable treatment strategies based on their specific needs and goals.

His addiction psychiatry practice involves supporting individuals affected by alcohol use disorder, substance use disorders, gambling addiction, food-related addictive behaviours, and problematic internet or social media use. He also manages dual diagnosis presentations, where psychiatric conditions occur alongside substance use concerns, requiring coordinated and specialised care.

Dr Alfa has significant experience in medico-legal psychiatry and prepares independent psychiatric reports for various legal and compensation matters. His areas of medico-legal work include motor vehicle accident claims, abuse and trauma cases, Department of Veterans Affairs (DVA) assessments, workers’ compensation matters, and Total and Permanent Disability (TPD) assessments. He has also provided expert evidence in court proceedings, including expert witness cross-examination.

Alongside his clinical work, Dr Alfa is currently undertaking a Doctor of Jurisprudence (JD) at Griffith University. This additional study strengthens his understanding of the connection between healthcare, mental health practice, and legal processes.
